JULIAN S. LIM

ChongKwanJang Julian S. Lim (aka Alif Aiman Abdullah) was born in 1959, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  Although he is professionally employed in the e-Marketing Communications field with an MBA, his special love is promoting Korean Martial Arts.  GM Lim started training in TaeKwonDo in 1970 under Lee Byong Moo and Nam Tae Hee, (two legendary Korean Masters) as well as Ooi Ah Ching and Andy Yuen. He achieved his first black belt in 1975, after having interrupted his grading timetable for 2 years to participate in inter-state college championships (black belts were not allowed to compete at the time).  GM Lim co-captained his college to 2 consecutive Grand Championship wins. He was also twice joint captain for the victorious (Selangor) Malaysian Open (Team) Championship as well as being the Malaysian Open 1984 Destruction Champion (Team).

GM Lim continued his martial art studies in England from 1976 to 1982 where he also practiced HapKiDo.  He successfully sat for his 5th Dan (ITF style TaeKwonDo) in 1984, and subsequently re-sat under the ChungDoKwan™ system (WTF TaeKwonDo), his original or ‘mother’ style, in 1986.  He was successful in achieving both his 8th Dan and “Best” Grand Master status for HapKiDo by the Korea HKD Association (KHA) in 2001 and awarded his 8th Dan for TaeKwonDo by the Korea ChungDoKwan™ Association in 2005.

GM Lim’s success in TKD instructing is borne out by his record of helping in the preparation of successful international teams: 3 teams (2 Malaysian and 1 New Zealand) collectively netting a total metal tally of 2 World Golds plus 4 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 Bronze medals at Regional Levels.  Medal tally at National levels total over 30 Gold and Silvers. He has also organized many charity functions using the Korean Martial Arts; various National and International Championships, and an eventual 52 program TV martial art series. Civilian national service contributions in 1984 and 1985 saw him appointed as Senior Instructor of the Royal Malaysian Para-military (PPH) Police.  The unit was routinely used against anti-communist insurgents via ‘search and destroy’ sweeps in dense jungle areas.

As recognition for his efforts in promoting TaeKwonDo (as well as being appointed as both an International Referee and International Master Instructor), GM Lim was honored by a Presidential Sports Award and a Letter of Citation from the WTF in 1989, with a 2nd WTF Certificate of Citation in 1994. He was given a further award, a special Plague of Appreciation, by TKD CDK, for his good works in 2005.

He was awarded his 8th Dan and CKJ of HKD SMK by the DaeHan KiDoHae (not WKF) in 2003. GM Lim was also a recipient of Letters of Citation from GrandMaster HWANG, Duk Kyu (Korea HapKiDo Association) and GrandMaster SEO, In Sun (KiDoHae). He is the current Head or ChongKwanJang of the perceived original school of HapKiDo, SungMooKwan™, certified as such by both the KHF and the KKH.
He was also appointed the official representative (Regional Director) of the World KiDo Federation (WKF) for the South East Asia-Pacific region in 1991 via the KiDoHae, and has also served as the Malaysian Representative for the KHA, KKH, KWTA and the KHF.

Lim was honored to serve as a special adviser to the Royal Malaysian Armed Forces Unarmed Combat Institute, where he had aggressively headed the development of a new (basic) state-of-the art self-defense system (Close Quarter Combat, HKD TTS (or Tindakan Tempur Senjata HapKiDo) from 1993 to 1994. Training was also extended on special request to various individuals from U.S. Army Special Forces (SF), Special Operations (Rangers) and Airborne units (82nd, 101st and the JFKSWC).

He held the acting rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring in 1999. LTC (Rtd) Lim is also a certified Associate Member of the US (Army SOF) 75th Ranger Regiment, American Airborne, US Airborne Pathfinder and US National Infantryman Associations. He is also recognized as a Master Instructor in Military Close Quarter Combat by the KWTA, KHF and the KKH. No other person in all 3 organizations’ history has been so recognized until now.

LTC Lim was honored by an invitation to join the Korea World TukKong Association (KWTA) in December 2006 and currently holds the rank of 8th Dan. The KWTA is the official research and training arm for the ROK military Special Forces and Presidential Secret Service. Their specialty is in anti-terrorist CQC.

In 2008, Grand Master Lim’s (aka Alif Aiman Abdullah) KMA and Tactical Combat CQC and CQB Training Programs were reviewed and endorsed as “Harus” or Permissible under Islamic Syariah law by JAKIM or Department of Islamic Research Malaysia. This is a world’s double first!

In addition to the Islamic body’s endorsement, Aiman received a second endorsement from none other than Sheikh Muhammad Alawi al-Maliki, a very noted Islamic religious leader who is based in Mecca. Sheikh Maliki was the initial person who accepted Aiman's Oath or Shahadah, welcoming him into Islam in 2007. The Sheikh was very encouraged by Aiman's interest in promoting Military and LE CQC and CQB internationally, and promised to offer prayers for the success of the Programs, especially into Islamic countries.
