Tip March 2005

HAND DRILLS (1/3) - 4 Count

The following are some intermediate hand and reflex conditioning exercises. The objective would be to neutralize, or parry deflection, a given attack and then to launch our own counter. The incoming attack can be a straight punch, wide hook, slow jab or downward strike.

The parry or tap deflects the attacking hand, while the hits or counters initiate damage. Damage in this (4 count) instance is to the attacking tool via a "cutting" block or hit, with the second counter being to the attacker's face.

All sequence should be done in one easy flow. Speed and power issues are secondary.

Attacker steps in with wide hook

Shift to Left, parry with Left
hand to Right

"Cutting" hit or active Right
hand block

Small step with Left hand
parry against elbow

Move in, backfist hit with Right hand
