Tip 06/03
Improvement of Tactile Responses
In the area of HoSinSool or self defense techniques,
we usually train to defend against grabs, punches or kicks. Focusing
on grabs, we usually try to vary the area of the grab to increase
our response ability. If for example, we are training on wrist grabs,
we will try same side and cross side grabs, single and double grabs.
In the quest to improve our response abilities,
we will try to vary the situation vis a vis the grabs. Once we are
reasonably comfortable with this, it could be beneficial to explore
other ways to vary the environment to improve our tactile input
and responses. One method would be to try to adapt to a low light
situations, eg, a dark room or hallway, etc.
One method which easily reflects this would be to
do the exercises with the defender having his/her sight blocked.
This can be done using a sleep shade and/or cotton with a simple
cloth bandanna to reinforce everything. Of course, one could simply
close one’s eyes, but ambient light will still be registered.
Once our eyes register mostly darkness, we then call on our partner
to go through the grabbing motions.
